TAMPA, FL – Tampa Police say a sophomoric prank at the Peter O. Knight Airport during Gasparilla festivities Saturday night landed a man in jail.

According to police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor, Bronnenberg, 28, was participating in the Gasparilla revelry in downtown Tampa at about 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, when he and his girlfriend began arguing.

Bronnenberg told police that he left his girlfriend and walked toward Davis Islands where he stripped down to his underwear. He said he then climbed the fence surrounding the Peter O. Knight Airport, entered an airplane hangar and tried to start a Piper PA-12 airplane. Bronnenberg then took a fire extinguisher and covered the plane with the chemical fire retardant from the extinguisher, according to police reports.

From there, Tampa Police say Bronnenberg proceeded to the main hangar where he attempted to start an ICON A5 aircraft and drive it out of the hangar.

When that failed, police say Bronnenberg absconded with a golf cart he discovered in the hangar and drove it to the fuel pumps located on the airport property. There, he hopped into the driver's seat of an International Model 4200 truck loaded with jet fuel and crashed it into the side of the main hangar.


After leaving the airport, Bronnenberg began walking along Severn Avenue toward the Davis Islands Yacht Club wearing only his underwear. At that point, he was spotted by police and arrested.

He is facing 11 felony and misdemeanor counts including burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief.
